Your company can thrive if and when you grow big enough to give out pocket knives with your corporate logo.
The first step is to develop a company logo that is simple and reflects the feeling of your company. The simpler the better. Some good examples are IBM, AT&T, and HP. These logos are very simple and easily recognizable. Some business owners try to put too much information, text, and graphics into a logo. At some point it looses its identity as a logo and becomes a picture.
After a successful company is proud of their logo, they usually like to give out promotional products that have their logo imprinted on them.
The best and largest companies give out company logo knives and other high-end business gifts. When you reach this point, you can be proud, because you are successful in creating a company that will carry your tradition of excellence into the future.
Without a doubt, the best-selling USA-made pocket knives are the Buck Folding Hunter 110, the Case Executive Lockback 7200, and the Kershaw Scallion Knife, Camo 1620. These are the best pocket knives to have laser engraved with your logo and give to your best clients. Your customers will absolutely love these 3 knives because they are American made, and because they are made by companies with a strong US tradition of quality.
Case has been making knives since 1889 deep in the hills of Bradford PA. Each knife is still made by hand by master craftsmen.
Kershaw “Scallion” Knife, Camo 1620
Kershaw, a proud US knife company was founded in 1974. They are a real newcomer, but have established a remarkable reputation with their USA-made knives. They also have some of the models made overseas to their exacting specifications.
Buck Knives go way back to 1902. The inventor, Hoyt Buck, from Kansas, started out as an apprentice blacksmith. He got obsessed with finding a way to temper steel so that it could be made into a better knife blade. A blade that would hold a sharp edge longer than previous blades. He started making custom Buck knives in 1902 out of old file blades. In 1945 he and his wife moved to San Diego. There, his son Al Buck started a partnership with him to produce Buck knives. The company was called H. H. Buck and Son. After Hoyt died, Al decided to incorporate, and started Buck Knives, Inc. in 1961. The most famous offspring of this important knife company was made in 1964–the Buck Folding Hunter model 110. We celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014. This wood handled lockback knife is the pocket knife that is synonymous with the Buck company. If someone says Buck Knife, this is the knife they are referring to. It is often imitated by other knife companies.
Today, in 2016, the 3rd and 4th generation of the Buck family are involved in the successful business. CJ Buck is the president and CEO today (and since 1999), and is the grandson of Al Buck. He took over in 1999 from his dad, Chuck Buck, who later died in 2015.
The secret to the sharpness of a Buck knife lies in the heat treating process that Paul Bos developed in 1956. It is a process of heating then freezing, then re-heating of the steel. Paul retired in 2010 from Buck, but the process is still used. Bos received the Blade Magazine Industry Achievement Award in 2007 for his involvement in heat treating technology.
The best pocket knife in the imported category, for 2016 is the Dako Shadow Pocket Knife 7915.
What impresses me about this knife is the unique design and advanced engineering. The knife is light as a feather, even though it is made entirely of steel. How did they do that?
One reason is having the same piece of steel do 2 jobs. The back handle also serves as the locking mechanism.
The other reason is–why cover the whole blade with a front handle, if all you need to cover is the edge of the blade? So they designed the front handle to do just that.
The size is not small. It’s a medium sized 3 1/2″ knife that you will be happy to make your “every day carry” (EDC). It opens easily with the thumb stud on the blade. Make 48 of your customers happy by giving them this knife with your company logo laser engraved on the blade. Your logo is visible even when the knife is closed.
Personalized Pocket Knives with your company logo are used as business gifts every day. Here are 4 misconceptions about this useful gifting idea:
Pocket Knives are for men only. False. Many women welcome a promotional pocket knife as a thoughtful gift. They like to keep them in their purse for emergencies like cutting string and opening boxes.
Pocket Knives are just weapons. False. They are as much a weapon as baseball bats. They have many useful peaceful purposes. Like opening blister-sealed packages, cutting rope, cardboard, and cutting things in projects involving your car, home, boat, and garage.
Business gifts should not have sharp edges. False. This is based on an old superstition, like opening an umbrella in a house, and rocking an empty rocking chair. Most people now are careful enough to safely handle a sharp pocket knife.
Pocket Knives cannot be taken on airplanes. False. The TSA allows you to pack pocket knives in your luggage and check it at the counter. You just can’t take them into the passenger cabin of the aircraft. The TSA was going to allow small pocket knives on board in 2015, but they reversed their ruling due to remarks from the airlines personnel.
So keep on giving quality pocket knives to your best customers. They will appreciate your generosity!
